Piers Morgan 'proud' of Diversity's BGT performance and tells them to 'ignore haters'

Piers Morgan has defended Diversity over their poignant Britain's Got Talent performance last week - saying he's "proud" of them.

The dance troupe performed a routine that was influenced by the Black Lives Matter movement and the treatment of black people by the police.

But it proved to be divisive among viewers and has now become the second most complained about TV moment ever, with 10,000 complaints made to regulator Ofcom.

However, they've got a fan in Piers, who said he was proud of the boys for taking a stand.

He retweeted a post made by Diversity member Ashley Banjo defending the routine.

Ashley wrote: "For the thousands of messages of hate and ignorance - Thank you.

"You highlight exactly what needs to change.

"Sending nothing but love to you all."

And Piers was keen to send his support, replying: "I thought it was great.

"Ignore the haters, Ashley. Proud of you."

Diversity's routine was inspired by BLM activism and the death of George Floyd by US police.

Diversity's BGT routine is now the second most complained about TV moment ever with 10,000 complaints (ITV)

It included a moment when Ashley was pinned to the floor by a white man, in the way that George Floyd was when he was killed by US police, as his fellow dancers posed with onlookers filming the incident on their mobile phones.

Ofcom's latest figures say it has been complained about 10,267 times.

This makes it the second most complained about TV moment ever, behind Roxanne Pallett's Celebrity Big Brother 'punchgate' with Ryan Thomas which got 25,327 complaints.
