Piers Morgan cut open his eye and was ‘semi-concussed’ after Prince Harry speech walk-out

Piers Morgan suffered an injury as he tried to leave the GQ Awards 2021 on Wednesday night.

The 56 year old was celebrating the Ofcom ruling which stated that his comments about Meghan Markle ’s suicidal thoughts were allowable as ‘free speech’.

In March, Piers objected to several claims made by the Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry in their notorious Oprah interview, and he accused them of not telling the truth. When he was confronted by weatherman Alex Beresford about his "diabolical" behaviour, Piers had a tantrum and stormed off set. When he refused to apologise, he was asked to leave the show.

But Piers’ happiness at the Ofcom outcome didn’t last long. As he attempted to leave the awards ceremony, held at the Tate Modern museum in London, the Duke of Sussex started to make a surprise speech via video from California.

The former Good Morning Britain host posted the hashtag "#awks," to his seven million followers on social media underneath a news item on the prince’s appearance.

Writing in his Mail column, Piers said, “I could hear Harry lecturing the audience about the danger of ‘misinformation’ and ‘peddling lies’, without a shred of self-awareness."

Piers left the building with his wife, Celia Walden, 45, but accidentally bumped into a window which turned his “exhilaration” to “agony.”

He said he'd been reading about his Ofcom "victory" when the accident occurred.

"I felt a sudden rush of exhilaration at the end of what had been a tumultuous but ultimately very satisfying day," he wrote.

"Then, as I reached the exit, still staring proudly at my phone, I walked straight into a large plate-glass window, banging my head so hard and loudly against it that concerned security guards rushed over to check I was OK."

He continued to explain that he’d cut open his eye – and joked that Harry would have found it amusing.

"I reeled back in agony, semi-concussed and with a cut opening above my right eye, only to see Harry’s massive head filling a nearby screen," he added.

"He was smirking right at me."

Piers cheekily added that he’d like viewers to vote for him at the upcoming National Television Awards. His GMB walkout has been nominated as one of telly’s top moments of this year.
