Piers Morgan can’t stop bragging after being crowned the public’s number one ‘secret crush.’
The Good Morning Britain presenter said that his “confidence in the British electorate” had now been restored after the public voted to leave the European Union in the 2016 Brexit referendum.
“BREAKING NEWS: I have been voted @heatworld’s Secret Crush 2019,” the ITV host tweeted this afternoon, after learning that he had the dubious honour of topping Heat magazine’s annual list of unlikely crushes.
“Apparently by ‘a landslide’ & beating @Schofe @Lord_Sugar @antanddec @JeremyClarkson,” he continued. “My confidence in the British electorate has finally been restored. Thank you.”
Morgan received more votes than the rest of the top five combined, including comedian Lee Mack, Britain’s Got Talent host Declan Donnelly, rival ITV presenter Phillip Schofield and broadcaster Dave Vitty.
His Good Morning Britain colleagues were less impressed with the news, however.
Revealing the results on this morning’s show, presenter Richard Arnold joked: “If you’re waking up this morning, you’re hiding under a big rock… get back under it because Piers is officially your favourite crush!”
Richard Madeley, who is covering for Morgan while he takes a short break from the show, suggested that a “secret” crush might imply that the public are “ashamed” by their affections.
Morgan used his acceptance speech to take a savage swipe at his Twitter sparring partner Lord Sugar, and even claimed that he feels “sorry” for Kanye West.
“My particular thoughts at this difficult time are with Lord Sugar who was one of the other people on the longlist,” he said, before adding: “To be fair to him he’s had a very massive crush on his face for quite some time from a two ton anvil that landed on it 50 years ago, rendering it such an abomination.”
“I feel for Kanye West, poor old Kim Kardashian’s woken up to the fact that more people fancy me than her husband, that’s not a good morning for he,” he continued.
Ant McPartlin, Noel Fielding, James Argent and King of the Jungle Harry Redknapp also featured in the top 10, along with Inbetweeners star Greg Davies.
