Piers Morgan calls police after getting death threats

Police are investigating after death threats were made to Piers Morgan and his family.

Good Morning Britain host Piers was targeted on social media with trolls on Instagram warning him he was a "marked man" and "getting killed."

Piers, who has helped aid the breakfast ITV show to record ratings alongside Susanna Reid, revealed a vile threat made to both him and his family earlier this week.

In a screenshot shared on his Twitter account on February 16, an account could be seen making multiple threats on an image of the star and his son enjoying a walk in London - reports the Daily Star.

One comment read: "Watch your back @Spencermorgan if you don't get your dad, your [sic] getting it or your mum is."

A second comment sent 60 seconds later read: "@PiersMorgan your [sic] a marked man, calling the police, big tech or beefing up your security isn't going to stop us getting to you, this isn't a threat Piers it's a promise, your getting killed [sic]."

Alongside the image, Piers added to his followers: "Another day, another death threat...

"Anyone know who he is? Let’s see how big and tough he feels when I give him the exposure he deserves."

Tweeting to his 7 million followers 24 hours later on February 17, Piers wrote: "Update: I’ve reported these death threats to the Met police and look forward to hearing back from them.

"I’m also keen to hear what steps @instagram and @Facebook are taking to identify the person who made the death threats on their platform and has now deleted their account."

He later added: "Well they’re definitely taking this seriously... they’re round my house now taking a statement."

A spokesperson for the Met Police said "We have received a report of malicious communications relating to messages sent on social media. Enquiries are ongoing."
