Piers Morgan calls Margaret Ferrier a 'political hooligan' as Good Morning Britain host backs prison calls

Piers Morgan has backed calls for Margaret Ferrier to be thrown in jail after details of her coronavirus breaches emerged.

The Good Morning Britain presenter clashed with top human rights lawyer Geoffrey Robertson QC on today’s episode of the popular ITV show.

Robertson described Ferrier as ‘one of the best and brightest MPs’ in the House of Commons as the lawyer moved to defend the disgraced politician.

The pair were involved in a debate over the appropriate punishment for people who break the coronavirus legislation while citing Ferrier’s situation.

Piers went on to describe the shamed MP as a “blithering idiot” and a “political hooligan”, as he called for tough sanctions to be imposed.

He said: "It was a serious breach of every guideline and she knew for at least half of it she was Covid positive. Is there not an argument to sling her in a prison cell?"

Later adding: “When we have football hooligans causing trouble at football matches they often get flung straight in prison as a short, sharp shock. She is a political hooligan who has taken Covid into the populace.”

Ferrier’s actions have come under much scrutiny in the last week after it emerged she made an 800-mile round trip as she waited on a coronavirus test - which later came back positive.

The Rutherglen and Hamilton West MP should have gone into self-isolation but instead chose to travel to Westminster two days after taking the test.

After receiving a positive result on last Monday, Ferrer jumped on the train back to Glasgow the next morning and exposed fellow passengers to the virus.

The Record reported yesterday how the politician attended a church service 24 hours after she developed symptoms of the virus.

It had also been revealed that she visited a gift shop, beauty salon and a leisure centre on the same day she took a coronavirus test.

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon is among the major figures calling for her resignation.

The First Minister recently blasted her “reckless, dangerous” actions.
