Piers Morgan calls for people flouting coronavirus advice to be 'arrested'

Piers Morgan has not shied away from making his thoughts clear about the coronavirus crisis.

And today the Good Morning Britain presenter went further as he expressed his anger over people not staying indoors and flouting the two metre rule.

Shocking footage emerged over the weekend of people going about their daily business as normal - gathering in groups, going out with friends and even heading to the coast for a holiday.

Scenes over the weekend were captured by the M.E.N. of crowds flocking to parks, markets, beaches and beauty spots, with cars lined the country lanes at Dovestones Reservoir in Saddleworth.

On the ITV breakfast programme, Piers went into a full rant over those who are not taking the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic seriously.

Piers exclaimed: “I would lock down the country and arrest them.”

Branding them all “morons”, Piers said that if these people were denied healthcare if they caught the virus, they would not be acting this way.

He said: “If they were told, if you are found doing this then you don’t get any healthcare for you or your family, if you develop serious conditions, would they still do it?

“If the answer is no, why would you then risk doing that to other people you don’t know? Why would you want to put them in harm's way to potentially kill them with your reckless stupidity?”

Piers and co-presenter Charlotte Hawkins then urged viewers to heed the advice that we should stay indoors.

He continued: “The wartime generation had five years of this. Many millions had to go and fight for their country and go over trenches to face machine guns and tanks.

“We are being asked to go home and watch telly. That is the sacrifice you have got to make for your country - and we can’t even do that.

“Because we’re the generation who doesn’t understand ‘no’ and doesn’t understand being told what to do.”

On top of that, Piers highlighted an American man who went into a supermarket and licked stock on the shelf in a bid to pass on any germs he may have to other people.

He said: “I’d like him found, and I am sure they will get him. And then I would like to deny him any health care, should he then get the virus, having tried to deliberately give it, potentially to other people.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
