Piers Morgan calls for Christmas to be cancelled this year because of Covid

Piers Morgan has called for Christmas to be cancelled because of Covid-19.

The Good Morning Britain host took to Twitter on Thursday morning to say that the deadly virus "doesn’t give a flying f**k" and so everyone will have to make "compromises" this festive season.

His comment was met by outrage from his Twitter followers, who said people had sacrificed enough through lockdowns one and two, so won't be willing to give up Christmas too, reports The Mirror.

The TV presenter, 55, tweeted: "Covid-19 doesn’t give a flying f**k about Christmas. If we have to make compromises this year, so be it.

"We can still attend virtual church services, & still have virtual meals with all the trimmings.

"The vaccines are coming fast, let's save as many lives as possible until then."

His comment proved to be very divisive amongst his fans, with one tweeting: "Absolutely right one missed Christmas to save lives should be a priority not an inconvenience."

But another disagreed, writing: "There's no chance anyone is stopping me from seeing my mum at Christmas. Absolutely zero possibility of that happening."

A third said: "Well said. Totally agree. We already have planned a Zoom Xmas dinner with the grandparents."

"For some it may be the last Xmas together and have not seen the parents since March..?" another wrote.

So far coronavirus has killed more than 1.3 million people globally and wreaked havoc upon economies and daily life.

It has been announced recently that the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine is 95% effective and the Moderna vaccine has similar effectiveness.
