Piers Morgan brands GMB co-star Laura Tobin "total nerd" in heatwave spat

Piers Morgan shocked viewers on Monday by branding his Good Morning Britain colleague Laura Tobin a "total nerd" in a clash over reports of an unseasonable heatwave for the UK

Over the past few days there has been growing speculation that temperatures will climb significantly in many areas of the country over the next few days and Laura outlined the forecast ahead during one of her weather bulletins on Monday's show.

Trying to play things down slightly, Laura said overall it would feel "warm," but Piers snapped back: "“In common sense terms it’s hot.”

Standing strong, Laura told Piers she was being "meteorically correct," but he responded: “No, you’re being a total nerd and it makes no sense."

Looking slightly taken aback, the pair's GMB co-star Susanna told him “You like people being total nerds and across their subjects.”

That did little to deter Piers, who then said: "“It’s obviously going to be boiling hot - not very warm.

“What if it goes to 50 degrees celsius, then what?” to which Laura replied: “I would push it to very, very warm.”

Not letting it drop, Piers cut her down again, ranting: "Unseasonably warm for this time of year - how ridiculous!"

Firmly Team Laura, one viewer was quick to defend her on Twitter, posting: "The only sensible person on GMB is little Laura 'geek " NASA nerd, a brilliant meteorological astrophysics that goes above and beyond, another, weather geek," and, hitting out at Piers for shutting her down, another commented: "Mr Morgan why are you telling Laura how to do her job?!
