Piers Morgan blasts 'utterly ridiculous' Novak Djokovic for clubbing with coronavirus

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan slammed tennis ace Novak Djokovic for hosting a tennis tournament and clubbing while infected with coronavirus.

Novak and his wife Jelena tested positive for COVID-19 and so did three other players who took part in the tournament, as did the pregnant wife of one of his friends.

He has since admitted it was "too soon" to host the tournament but has faced fierce criticism as he and his wife shared coronavirus conspiracy theories on social media and did not appear to take the virus seriously until it was too late.

Footage of Novak hugging people and dancing in a nightclub also surfaced, infuriating Piers.

"To have caused a situation where your best friend's wife who is pregnant, gets infected with the virus, and it was so reckless, the partying scenes that we saw," said Piers.

"This it utterly ridiculous for the world's top tennis player to be putting on this kind of thing in a pandemic."

Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki all tested positive for COVID-19 after playing at the Adria Tour competition in Serbia.

Novak's children have not tested positive for the virus, and the player has also been slammed by his sporting counterparts including Andy Murray.

His apology stated: "Everything we did in the past month, we did with a pure heart and sincere intentions.

"Our tournament meant to unite and share a message of solidarity and compassion throughout the region.

He continued: "I am extremely sorry for each individual case of infection.

"I hope that it will not complicate anyone's health situation and that everyone will be fine.

"I will remain in self-isolation for the next 14 days, and repeat the test in five days."
