Piers Morgan blasts 'rattled' Matt Hancock and Government's 'confusing' response to open airports

Piers Morgan has lashed out at the Government's Deputy Chief Medical Officer over his "confusing" response to keeping airports open in the UK during the coronavirus pandemic.

He also took aim at Health Secretary Matt Hancock, accusing him of "looking rattled" during the daily briefing earlier today.

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers, 55, insisted that "nothing about Britain's airports staying open makes sense" and blasted Professor Jonathan Van-Tam's reply.

During the briefing, the professor was asked why arrivals to the UK aren't being screened.

He replied that there is a "basic problem" because it could take up to 12 hours to fly to the UK but the incubation period for the virus is up to 14 days.

However Piers was left baffled by the response and tweeted: "What does this even mean?

"Nothing about Britain's airports staying open makes any sense, & Professor Van-Tam just made it even more confusing."

Piers also hit out at Health Secretary Matt Hancock, branding him "rattled".

He wrote: "Hancock looks rattled. He knows he won't hit anywhere near his 100k-a-day tests by end of April.

"He knows PPE is still chronically short & health/care workers are dying in huge numbers. He knows Govt lied about EU joint procurement scheme."

His Twitter followers were divided by the comments, with some agreeing with Piers and others accusing him of "point scoring".

One tweeted: "Get off his case piers , this is not the time for point scoring . Some of us in the nhs are sick of hearing how the government got it wrong , let’s get through this then reflect and learn how we could ensure we are in a better position in the future."

Yet another commented: "He failed the British public. So did Boris. They saw this coming months ago and did nothing. Stop defending politicians who have let thousands die."
