Piers Morgan blasts Love Island stars as ‘morons’ and cuts GMB segment about the ITV show short

Piers Morgan loves nothing more than throwing the TV rulebook out the window, but today he went one step further and axed a segment halfway through.

The Good Morning Britain host was so annoyed by Richard Arnold’s Love Island update on Tuesday’s show that he cut it short and refused to listen to it.

Poor Richard was left shocked by the move as Piers branded the ITV reality show’s stars ‘morons’, adding it was 'moronic' to air this amid the news that the BBC planned to axe free TV licenses for pensioners.

If plans go ahead, anyone aged 75 and over will now have to pay for licenses as of next year, unless they are in receipt of pension credit.

Piers, who has campaigned with co-host Susanna Reid for the broadcasting company to reverse the plans, has never pretended to like the dating series, but today he seemed to get to the end of his tether with it.

Entertainment reporter Richard showed a clip from last night’s episode which saw Molly-Mae and Yewande graft for newcomer Danny’s affections.

But Piers didn't want to see any more and demanded they move away from the show onto something more important.

Waving his hands to the camera crew, he said: “Sorry, I’m cutting that.

“There’s something that’s really jarring with me, that we’re watching Love Island morons banging on about moronic stuff, when actually we’re trying to wage a campaign that will get 3.7 million pensioners their TV licence.”

Ever the diplomat, Susanna explained that some of the pensioners might watch Love Island - but Piers was having none of it, and spoke over her to try and move on to a different subject.

GMB airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
