Piers Morgan blasts Gavin Williamson in heated GMB exchange over when schools might open

Piers Morgan blasted Gavin Williamson over 'catastrophic failings' during the coronavirus pandemic.

The education secretary appeared on Good Morning Britain on Thursday morning and was quizzed by Piers and co-host Susanna Reid.

Piers repeatedly asked if he had resigned or offered to resign, suggesting he was "terrible" in the role and should let a more "competent" person take over "because you have failed our kids."

Mr Williamson responded: "Piers, we are facing more disruption to our education system then we've ever seen, even during the Second World War."

He later added: "My one focus is to make sure we deliver the very best for children."

Piers and Susanna also repeatedly when schools would reopen, to which Mr Williamson provided no specific answer, except for when it was right in line with scientific advice.

The GMB host shouted back: "We know what your focus is… but your focus has not proven to be very good has it? You've been a catastrophe, own it."

He continued as Mr Williamson swerved the questions: "Is there a problem on my mic? Can you not hear me? Mr Williamson... you are totally ignoring me. I’m asking you a simple question."

Piers raged: "Just be honest, you haven’t got a clue when schools are gonna reopen, you don’t have a clue do you?"
