Piers Morgan blasts Ant McPartlin’s NTA nomination: ‘He’s been sitting on his backside for a year’

Piers Morgan took a swipe at Ant McPartlin after he landed two nominations ahead of this year’s National Television Awards.

Morgan blasted the Britain’s Got Talent presenter after it was announced he is still up for the Best Presenter gong, alongside working partner Declan Donnelly, despite being out of the spotlight after a drink-driving incident and stint in rehab last year.

Lashing out during Tuesday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, Morgan said: “By the way, you know how I was joking about Ant and Dec getting nominated for NTAs because they win it every year, when one of them hadn’t done any work this year. It’s happened!

“They’ll win. Even though Ant’s basically been sitting on his backside from what I can see walking his dog for the last year. He’s got an award.”

However, co-host Susanna Reid couldn’t help but interrupt: “You can’t sit on your backside and walk your dog.”

Later on in the show, Morgan added: “I love Ant but come on, really? Really British public? You’re going to give the award again to the guy who hasn’t done any work this year?”

ITV confirm Ant McPartlin is coming back 'when he is well'

McPartlin and Donnelly, who have won the award for 17 years in a row, will battle it out against Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield, Bradley Walsh and Graham Norton for the gong.

The pair are also nominated for The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award for Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

McPartlin is expected to make his return to screens in 2019, having kicked off filming for this year's Britain's Got Talent.

The National Television Awards take place on January 22 at London's O2 arena.
