Piers Morgan blasts "absolutely outrageous" news that Parliament bars don't have to shut at 10pm

Piers Morgan has blasted the "absolutely outrageous" news that bars in Parliament don't have to abide by the same 10pm curfew in force at hospitality venues all over the country.

Last week Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a list of stricter restrictions for the whole of England after a sharp rise in coronavirus cases, one of the biggest being that pubs, bars and restaurants will now have to close their doors at 10pm, bringing them in line with ones in many parts of the North East which already had to adhere to the new rule as a result of the local lockdown.

Over the weekend there were scenes of crowds of people pouring into city centre streets at the same time as a result of the new curfew, flooding public transport as they attempted to make their way home.

And people's objection to the new legislation was only heightened by the shocking news that bars in Parliament are allowed to stay open longer than 10pm as they are classed as a “workplace canteen”.

Sharing an article about the bars on Twitter, Good Morning Britain host Piers blasted: "This is absolutely outrageous," and he also reacted angrily to the news live on Monday's GMB, ranting: "It’s kicking out time for the entire country, apart from MPs…. Is that a joke? It’s one rule for us and one rule for them.”

One of his many Twitter followers commented: "I can’t work out why MP’s place of work requires a bar; no place I ever worked has had one.

"If they shut them, the whole damned lot could get back to work appropriately distanced.

Sharing those sentiments, another posted: "Typical. One rule for them and one for the rest of us. Is it any wonder people are protesting," and a third responded: "Can’t they see they are undermining their own messages if they consider themselves exempt?

"Why should we follow rules that they can’t follow themselves. It’s either a dangerous virus or it isn’t.

"They are making me so angry!"

The news of the exemption for Parliament's bars has left a very bad taste in the mouths of those in the hospitality industry and one of them reacted: "So for weeks now we have been working extra hard in my business taking details and trying to enforce customers to wear masks as directed.

"They should be setting an example
