Piers Morgan believes his youngest son had ‘new coronavirus symptom’

Piers Morgan believes that his youngest son may have a strain of coronavirus after developing a ‘new symptom’.

The Good Morning Britain host said that his 19-year-old son Albert lost his sense of taste and smell weeks ago and still has not got it back.

Piers described it as a "very unnerving" thing to get.

This symptom has only recently been attributed to COVID-19 - however it is not deemed an official symptom that means you need to self isolate, under the current government guidelines.

The NHS says do not leave home if you or someone you live with has either a high temperature or a new, continuous cough.

The 55-year-old presenter spoke about it during an interview with journalists Kevin Maguire and Andrew Pierce, who is recovering from the virus.

Piers said: "One of my sons had it in a much milder way. He lost his taste and smell and still hasn't really got it back. It’s a weird thing, isn’t it?”

When Susanna asked whether he was talking about his own son, Piers clarified.

"Yeah my youngest boy had it,” he said. “He had that taste and smell thing that I think now most people are associating with the virus.

"Luckily he didn't get anything like what you had but he did experience it for a few days. It’s a very unnerving thing to get."

Piers later clarified that he does not live with his sons and had not seen him for three weeks from when Albert, known as Bertie, developed the “mild symptoms”.

He said: “It wouldn't have necessitated self isolation under the current government guidelines.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
