Piers Morgan backs boss who says employees must have Covid vaccine in GMB clash

Piers Morgan became embroiled in another heated debate on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, as two guests shared their opposing views on the Coronavirus vaccine.

Pimlico Plumbers boss Charlie Mullins suggested he was not going to take on any new employees that have not had the Covid-19 vaccine.

Fellow guest Paris Petgrave disagreed with this, suggesting it was "discriminating" against the employees who worked for him.

She referenced medical conditions or cultural reasons why someone might not have the vaccine.

Piers hit out at this, before backing Charlie over his comments - admitting he himself would rather tradespeople who entered his home were vaccinated.

Explaining his reasons for his comments, Charlie said: "It’s all about safety for our staff and safety for our customers."

Susanna Reid asked if it was legal, and Charlie explained: "Our lawyers are working on it and they’re happy to adapt existing contracts and in the new contracts - there’s no way we’re gonna endanger existing staff or customers, of course."

Charlie went on: "It’s a no brainer - at the end of the day, we have to look at an overall thing. We’re not doing anything wrong, we’d happily pay for all our staff to have it but it’s their choice, we’re not sacking anybody, they’d have to be in a separate situation. Anyone with half a brain would agree with this."

Paris soon weighed in though, telling him: "I think it’s a bizarre approach - Think about the Government, they employ 1.3 million people in the NHS and they haven’t mandated one single person to take that vaccine.

"In fact, there’s no legislation that the vaccine should be mandated. It’s a violation of our human rights, it’s unethical to discriminate against the employees who work for you."

It's then that Piers defended Charlie and hit out at Paris' views, backing Charlie's comments about safety.

He told them: "As far as I’m concerned, all the loony anti-vaxxers can go use an anti-vaxxer plumbing company. And I applaud, actually, Charlie."

Dr Hilary Jones was then asked his opinion, with him also backing Charlie - before he too clashed with Paris over the vaccine.

He said on the show: "I'm with Charlie on this. I think if I was having tradesman coming into my house, I'd rather they didn't have a transmissible disease."

On Paris' comments about fertility, he added: "There is no hypothetical mechanism where fertility would be affected," before calling the remarks "scaremongering".

She hit back: "No, it's not scaremongering at all. As you know, pregnant people or those that are planning have been advised not to take the vaccine."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
