Piers Morgan asks questions of the Newcastle takeover on Good Morning Britain

The fiancee of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi has warned Newcastle United fans that a Saudi led takeover would be like a 'nightmare' compared to Mike Ashley.

Hatice Cengiz was appearing as a guest on ITV's Good Morning Britain addressing the newly-imposed UK government sanctions on those accused of human rights abuses - including those accused of murdering Khashoggi.

The initial sanctions have seen 20 Saudi nationals placed on the list but the Crown Prince nor anyone connected to the Public Investment Fund - which is leading the United takeover - are on it.

GMB hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid quizzed Cengiz on the takeover.

Morgan described Newcastle as a 'big Premier League side' before Reid asked Cenqiz for her view on the deal.

"To Newcastle fans, if you are unhappy with the current owner, the Crown Prince will be much worse.

"For fans, I want to say, if Mike Ashley's tenure has been like a bad dream, for them the Crown Prince will be like a nightmare."

The deal remains under the scrutiny of the Premier League and while chief executive Richard Masters spoke of a decision to be made 'shortly' there is no timescale on what that actually means.

Meanwhile the club is left in limbo for summer plans.
