Piers Morgan asks for ITV Good Morning Britain job back after Prince Harry revelation

Piers Morgan took to social media to ask for his job at Good Morning Britain back two years after his controversial exit. The journalist and TV presenter asked about being reinstated by the ITV news programme after Prince Harry suggested comments made about his son before he was born were 'not racist'.

During the couple's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle opened up about their time as senior working royals and alleged that an unnamed person within the royal household had 'concerns and conversations' about how 'dark' the skin of their son Archie would be, reports Manchester Evening News.

However, during his sit-down interview with ITV anchor Tom Bradby, which aired on Sunday night, Prince Harry has said they never made a racism accusation. After the 38-year-old was asked to elaborate on the Oprah interview in which ‘you accused members of your family of racism’, Harry replied: replied: "There was – there was concern about his skin colour."

He was then asked: "Wouldn’t you describe that as essentially racist?" But Prince Harry later responded: "I wouldn't, not having lived within that family."

Piers received a huge backlash to comments he made about the Duchess of Sussex following her interview with Oprah back in March 2021. Piers then became embroiled in a heated debate after he refused to believe claims from Meghan during her tell-all interview with Oprah alongside her husband Prince Harry.

The show's weatherman Alex Beresford confronted Piers over his comments about the Duchess of Sussex when he dismissed her claims that she suffered suicidal thoughts and struggled with her mental health after joining the royal family. The row, in which Alex told Piers his behaviour towards Meghan was 'absolutely diabolical', caused Piers to storm off the set and hours later, his exit from the ITV news programme was announced.

His swift exit came after his rant about Meghan's comments on the ITV news programme received the most complaints to Ofcom in a decade - with more than 57,000 people lodging a complaint. However, six months after the episode in question, Ofcom said that GMB was not in breach of the broadcasting code over Piers' comments about the Duchess of Sussex’s interview.

And with Prince Harry's latest revelation, Piers has taken to Twitter to have his say - and to see if he can get his old job back. "Now he’s finally admitted there was no racism, two questions," the 57-year-old, who now has his own TalkTV show, typed. "a) Do I get my old job back? b) Why should we believe a word they say?"

And some were keen to see him back on the ITV show. @mikeytoye tweeted: "Would love you back on @GMB spice it up a bit. Hasn't been the same since you left." @Ash_470 replied: "I say you're like marmite - people either love you or hate you. I love you and think you're a top journalist, and let's face it @GMB has never been the same since your departure."

But others weren't so thrilled with the prospect. @AshimusPrime said: "@GMB Please don't give this guy this job back. If that happens I'll be forced to throw my TV out the window and I can't afford another one." @simon0065 replied: "Really? I seem to recall you storming off the set after arguing with a fellow presenter. You chose not to return. Is this what you view as being "forced"? Just asking for a friend...."
