Piers Morgan announces Government GMB boycott is over

Piers Morgan took to social media today to gleefully declare that the government's boycott of Good Morning Britain was coming to an end tomorrow.

GMB host Piers took to social media today to announce the news, after over 200 days of no one in government appearing on the programme.

The last time someone from the senior leadership appeared on the ITV breakfast show was in April.

Piers shared a photo of him and co-host Susanna Reid outside 10 Downing Street beaming.

Piers captioned the post: " BREAKING: Downing Street just called me.. the 201-day Government boycott of Good Morning Britain is over & Health Secretary Matt Hancock will be appearing on tomorrow’s show."

And his followers were quick to congratulate him on the news.

robert.maycey said: " I can’t wait I’m going to get up early just to watch."

cohara89 said: "Wait is this April 1st? Nope..... then yaaas I can’t wait for this! Get stuck into him Piers!!! Hopefully you get maybe 1 straight answer from him."

Matt Hancock briefly appeared on GMB last week when a reporter ran up to the health secretary as he finished an interview with a rival channel outside the BBC’s headquarters.

Reporter Nick Dixon, asked Mr Hancock live on air why ministers were boycotting the show, he said: “When will you come on and talk to Piers and Susanna?"

Mr Hancock replied “Oh, I’ll come on as soon as I possibly can."

It's not known exactly why the government have decided to begin speaking to GMB again, but it comes just days after Boris Johnson’s communications chief Lee Cain and senior adviser Dominic Cummings left Number 10.

The pair were known for refusing to speak to news outlets they didn't like and last December they imposed a boycott of Radio 4’s Today programme, which lasted until the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
