Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid mock Dominic Cummings in scathing GMB rant and brand him a 'liar'

Piers Morgan returned to Good Morning Britain today and slammed Dominic Cummings for abusing his status and flouting lockdown rules in a scathing rant.

Piers and his co-presenter Susanna Reid had a week off Good Morning Britain when the situation unfolded.

On their return, the pair initially mocked Mr Cummings for his excuses before taking a brutal swipe at him.

The debate was sparked after the Prime Minister's senior adviser Dominic Cummings insisted he did not breach government rules by  travelling  from his home in London to Durham when the country was under  strict lockdown.

Cummings travelled  260 miles  with his wife and their four-year-old son to the north of England at the end of March - something he says was justified through a childcare loophole.

He refused to apologise and said he did not regret his decision, while revealing he took an eyesight ‘test drive’ to Barnard Castle with his family before returning to work in London.

Yet the prime minister has refused to sack his senior aide, saying that he had "followed the instincts of every father".

As GMB returned on Monday, Piers accused Cummings of "destroying lockdown" and even went on to call him a 'liar'

Susanna laughed as she asked Piers if he'd spent any of his week off testing his eyesight.

He was quick to respond: "I drove 250 miles to Durham to see a castle.

"My eyesight was so bad I put my children in the back of my car so that just in case I did crash.. . to check my eyesight wasn't as bad as I feared I put my children in the back of my car because that is what you do."

He went on: "Why don't we call it what it is, Dominic Cummings is a liar.

"He broke the rules we know it, everyone knows it... they're not gonna shut me down, he broke every rule there is to break."

Piers went on to slam the fact that the due to the rules he still couldn't drive to his second home, while that is what Cummings effectively did.

He called the entire situation "nonsense" as he remained in office, despite the backlash.

Piers said: "We didn't all break the rules, the rules were very straight froward."

He added: "Every part of this stinks and there he is back in his work station like nothing happened."

The pair continued to blast the situation, and Cummings, unsure how it had gone down the way it did.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
