Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid admit to 'significant' lockdown weight gain on GMB

Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid both admitted they had piled on the pounds over lockdown.

The ITV hosts say their combined weight is almost two stone heavier than it was earlier this year - and today they made it quite clear that they were mortified and something needed to be done about it.

But the Good Morning Britain presenters had a very different way of tackling the issue of encouraging people to get back to a ‘healthier’ weight.

While Piers was in support of ‘fat shaming’ him into getting back into a healthy lifestyle, Susanna said that even jokingly calling her colleague a ‘chubster’ made her uncomfortable.

The ITV presenters disclosed that they had both put on weight - but Piers was quick to blame his sore ankle.

Piers said: "Like a lot of people through lockdown, especially when you bust your ankle up, I have. I'm carrying too much weight."

When asked exactly how much he had gained, he said: "At least half a stone to three quarters of a stone."

"I've put on a stone!" Susanna replied.

"Right, so I need to be shamed into getting it off," Piers continued.

Susanna joked: "Yes, you fat person. Lose the weight. I mean, it's about time, chubster."

When there were gasps from off camera, Susanna said that she didn’t agree with that tactic and only said it because Piers invited her to.

“That’s what he just told me to do,” she exclaimed.

“It brings me out in hives just saying it.”

Piers then went on to explain that the ‘tough love’ approach has worked on him.

“It has had the right effect on me,” he said. “I will go back today and eat a little less cheese, put the second bottle away and get back on the Peloton for the first time in a couple of months.”

Susanna disagreed with this way of tackling the issue and said that “sensible advise works” - but Piers was having none of it.

“No, stop chunking up, fatso, you shouldn’t be eating so many cakes,” he said. “That’s what you need to be told.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
