Piers Morgan and Doctor Hilary clash in heated care homes debate as tempers flare

Things got rather frosty in the Good Morning Britain studio when host Piers Morgan clashed with resident health expert Doctor Hilary Jones over care homes.

Always outspoken presenter Piers quizzed the GMB doctor on the current crisis in care homes due to the coronavirus outbreak right at the start of Wednesday's show.

It's been widely reported now, that with the UK coronavirus death toll now standing at over 33,000, that a massive number of lives have been lost in the care home sector, with many patients revealed to have been released back into their homes without being tested.

The argument was sparked by Piers' claim that he'd been told GPs and doctors were not going into care homes to help their patients.

However, Dr Hilary insisted they were visiting their patients - and repeated that the lack of tests was a big issue.

Speaking over the top of Dr Hilary about staff in care homes, Piers said: "They were not trained Dr Hilary...they were not trained to deal with people with COVID-19!

"They didn't have the protective equipment and we had those field hospitals..."

Jumping in, Dr Hilary interrupted: "But was hospital a safer environment?!"

Not backing down, Piers retorted: "What about the Nightingale hospitals that weren't being used; why didn't you send them there?"

And also sticking to his stance, the medical professional replied: "Because the staff that normally deal with elderly people who need different kind of attention to younger people were not at the Nightingale."

Piers hit back: "Put them in there then! Put in people who are trained."
