Piers Morgan admits he's a 'Covidiot' after being snapped not wearing mask in taxi

Piers Morgan has dubbed himself a 'Covidiot' after he didn't wear a mask while in the back of a taxi.

The TV star was recently rumbled after dining at swanky Harry's Bar in Mayfair, London.

Piers, 55, and his wife, Celia Walden were pictured getting into a cab, however Morgan was seen not wearing a face mask which breaks coronavirus rules in England.

The Good Morning Britain host admitted that he was wrong and that he 'completely forgot' after stopping to chat to paparazzi, the Mirror reports.

"After being distracted by my chat with the photographers, I’d completely forgotten to put on my mask as I clambered into the cab – as now required by law – only remembering to do it a few seconds later as we pulled away,” Piers wrote in a Daily Mail column.

Official government guidelines say, "you must wear a face covering when using taxis or private hire vehicles”.

Piers did eventually put on his mask a few seconds after he was photographed and promised to do better in the future.

“So I’m now officially one of the Covidiots that I’ve spent the year berating for not abiding by the rules. I’ve no complaints… I think it’s very important we all wear masks whenever we should, so I will now try even harder to remember to do so,” he wrote.

The GMB host has spent much of the pandemic berating people both on the show and on Twitter for not following the rules.

He issued an explosive rant at singer Rita Ora who recently copped a £10,000 for hosting her 30th birthday party at a London restaurant during November’s lockdown.

“These celebs, I'll do what I want and no one else matters, I don't get it,” Piers stated angrily.

"What's the restaurant doing allowing all those people in?”

The TV host has even publicly butted heads with his own son, Spencer, 27, over the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Piers’ admission that he was wrong comes as he revealed one of his sons and many of his family members have had Covid.

"Three good friends of mine lost parents to covid," Piers wrote on Twitter in response to columnist Allison Pearson saying she knew “hardly anyone” who had Covid.

"My colleague Kate Garraway’s husband is in a coma from it.

"My parents just had it. One of my sons just had it. One of my brothers, his wife, & their eldest daughter just had it. My niece just had it.

"Consider yourself lucky."
