Piers Morgan addresses possibility of GMB return after 200,000 call to bring him back

Piers Morgan appears to have been Good Morning Britain's Marmite character as while viewers complained in their droves, others have signed a petition to bring him back.

The presenter dramatically quit his role on the ITV news programme on Tuesday evening shortly after it was revealed Ofcom was to launch an investigation into comments he made about Meghan Markle as more than 40,000 complained to the broadcasting watchdog.

His sudden exit also came hours after he stormed off the GMB set after getting into a heated exchange with weather presenter Alex Beresford.

But while many called for him to be removed by ITV, three petitions on Change.org calling for hist return to have since garnered a combined total of more than 196,000 signatures.

In response to the numbers, Piers wrote on Twitter: "I won't be going back, but thanks to everyone who has signed these petitions. Normally, people start petitions to have me fired or deported, so this is a pleasant surprise."

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday morning, less than 24 hours after his departure was announced, the 55-year-old teased his next move.

He told reporters outside his London home: "I think it’s fair to say, although the woke crowd will think that they’ve cancelled me, I think they will be rather disappointed when I re-emerge," Piers said.

"I would call it a temporary hibernation."

Piers also added that he is "always in talks with people".
