Piers Morgan accuses Tory Party of 'fake news' for editing Labour MP Keir Starmer interview

Piers Morgan accused the Conservative Party of peddling 'fake news' by doctoring a video of the presenter interviewing a Labour MP about Brexit.

The Tories edited a Good Morning Britain interview, where Piers grilled Shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Keir Starmer about Labour's ability to get a good 'deal' to leave the EU , should Labour win the General Election .

As the above video shows, the Tories are accused of editing the footage to make it look like Sir Keir was unable to answer the presenter's question.

Piers asked Sir Keir: "Why would the EU give you a good deal if you know they're going to actively campaign against it?"

In the original video, Mr Starmer replied: "I have been talking to the EU to political leaders across the EU 27 countries for three years, and I know very well what the parameters are of any deal that they would do with a Labour Government."

James Cleverly admits that the Tory party edited a GMB interview with Keir Starmer

But the Tories posted a doctored version of the video, where it appears Mr Starmer is unable to answer Mr Morgan's question.

Conservative Party chairman James Cleverly appeared on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, where Piers accused the Tories of sharing 'fake news' by posting a misleading cut of Mr Morgan and Sir Keir.

"You have deliberately, as a party, edited that exchange, to make it look like Sir Keir Starmer didn't answer. In fact, he answered immediately and fluently.  That is the purest definition of fake news," said Mr Morgan.

Mr Cleverly denied the video is 'fake news'. He told Mr Morgan that the original video shows Mr Starmer unable to credibly explain Labour's Brexit position, and argued the Tories merely shortened it out of necessity/

He added: "I would suggest that if people want to see the full video they can go to the official CCHQ Twitter feed where the full video that you posted is available."
