Piers Morgan accuses Boris Johnson of 'kicking the boot in' over plans to charge NHS staff to park

TV host Piers Morgan has criticised the "tone-deaf" Government for announcing they would be charging NHS staff for parking once again.

The Good Morning Britain presenter branded the plans "utterly disgusting" and accused Prime Minister Boris Johnson of "kicking the boot in".

At the beginning of the pandemic, parking fines issued to NHS staff while they were working at hospitals sparked outrage with the public, reports The Mirror.

The parking charges were subsequently scrapped, but it has been reported that workers will be charged again.

Referring to the Prime Minister's ill-timed remarks about care homes and blaming them for Covid-19, Piers raged about the news regarding parking on GMB on Wednesday.

"There was another sector that he forgot to kick the boot into," Piers said. "And that's the NHS workers!"

Pointing out that they had campaigned against parking charges for NHS workers, he added: "Hundreds of NHS workers are risking their lives for us. And their award is that they're going to charge all of our workers who are saving our lives for parking again. Utterly disgusting."

Piers announced they would be starting a new campaign to scrap the parking charges for NHS staff and Dr Hilary agreed, saying that he would be the first to sign it.

"There are no perks for NHS staff, they often miss out on their coffee break, lunch break," he said. "We need to support them.

"I know so many nurses who have been attacked on the way to shifts. Once again, the Government have done something thoughtless and heartless and the public backlash will be so intense that they will have to do a u-turn and look weak again."
