Piers Corbyn, the brother of the former Labour leader, has been arrested after being caught on video urging crowd to ‘burn down’ offices of MPs
The 73-year-old conspiracy theorist was taken in by the Met Police after calling for violence against MPs.
Addressing crowds at an anti-vax demonstration on Saturday, the 73-year-old conspiracy theorist ranted that people should “hammer to death” politicians who voted for Covid restrictions.
Corbyn’s call for violence comes just two months after the killing of Tory MP David Amess in an attack in his Essex constituency.
In a statement the Met Police said: “A man, aged in his 70s, has been arrested on suspicion of encouragement to commit arson.
“He was arrested in Southwark at around 01:45hrs on Sunday, 19 December.
“The arrest relates to a video posted online in which people were encouraged to burn down MPs’ offices.
In the video Corbyn attacked “those scum who have decided to go ahead with introducing new fascism” and ranted at a London protest: “You’ve got to get a list of them ... and if your MP is one of them, go to their offices and, well, I would recommend burning them down, OK.
“But I can’t say that on air. I hope we’re not on air.”
The clip of Corbyn was met with widespread condemnation, with Home Secretary Priti Patel branding it “sickening”.
She wrote: “I back police to take the strongest possible action against him.
Labour Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, wrote: “Appalling Piers Corbyn video. "
“We have lost two MPs to terrible violence in recent years - we know how incredibly serious this is. Police will have all our support pursuing this.”
