Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg shirt number: Jan Vertonghen reacts as Tottenham signing takes No.5 jersey

Tottenham will have been pleased to finally showcase new arrival Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after sealing his £15 million move on Tuesday.

But it's safe to assume some people, notably Jan Vertonghen, were having trouble adapting to the news.

The Denmark international will take the number five jersey at Spurs next season after being unveiled with the club's new home kit at their Enfield training base.

That is, of course, the shirt number that Vertonghen left vacant when he bid farewell to the club after eight years in north London.

The 32-year-old is now a free agent and has been linked with moves to Inter Milan, Napoli and former club Ajax.

But it seems the Belgian may not be quite ready to move on just yet after reacting with a tongue-in-cheek remark about Hojbjerg taking his number.

"This looks sooo weird!!" he wrote via his official Twitter account, quote-tweeting Spurs' image of Hojbjerg's name on the shirt.

Few could blame the Belgian for having a sense of protection over his squad number. But you get the feeling all may be forgotten when he finally reveals his next destination.
