Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's midfield role for Tottenham, Ryan Sessegnon sends pre-season message

Here is your Tottenham morning digest for Monday, August 24.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's surprise midfield role

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg caught the eye as he made his Tottenham debut in the team's comfortable 3-0 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon.

Seen as the player to sit deep and allow the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele to push on and have an impact in the final third, Hojbjerg himself was actually pushing on very often.

It was Harry Winks who constantly sat deep, allowing the new signing to roam forward to help out the likes of Dele Alli and Co in attack.

His debut only lasted 63 minutes but he made a very good impression on his Spurs bow and there is still so much more to come from him.

Ryan Sessegnon's message

Ryan Sessegnon was one of three players to play the full 90 minutes in the comfortable win over Ipswich.

Struggling to make an impression during his first season at the club after arriving injured and then playing a bit-part role due to players available to Mourinho, 90 minutes was much-needed for the youngster as he bids to make a name for himself in north London.

Scoring the opener against Ipswich with a low finish after cutting in from the left, he went close to a second after the break but his effort didn't have enough pace on it to trouble the goalkeeper.

Following a quiet first year at the club, this could be the season when Spurs finally see the real Ryan Sessegnon.

Sociedad preparing for Willian Jose exit

Real Sociedad are preparing for the exit of striker Willian Jose after he tried to force through a transfer to join Tottenham in January, AS via Sport Witness reports.

The Brazilian effectively went on strike earlier this year when the Basque side did not accept an offer, causing fury for the club and their supporters, and then had to grovel when a proposed deal collapsed.

Willian Jose's future remains uncertain and there is a lack of trust between the two parties, so it's stated that the La Liga side are preparing for a potential exit this summer.
