Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has said that a conversation with Jose Mourinho convinced of his role at Tottenham and another chat with Christian Eriksen helped to convince him he was making the right move this summer.
Hojbjerg joined Tottenham earlier this summer from Southampton, with the Danish international ending months of speculation over his future having also been linked with Everton.
He always insisted that north London was his preferred destination, with the Dane speaking of his delight after completing the move last month.
But he has now outlined the role of his international team-mate and former Tottenham star Eriksen, who left Spurs in January to join Inter Milan, in his decision.
“I called Christian and had a chat. I had some questions that I would have had clarified. And that was really positive,” he told Ekstra Bladet while on international duty.
"The talk I had with Christian, strengthened my desire and feeling to move to Tottenham."
It wasn't just a conversation with his international team-mate that proved key though, with Hojbjerg also opening up on what Jose Mourinho has said to him about his move and his instruction over what he must do for the team.
“We have had some really good conversations where Mourinho has told me I have to make the team better and take responsibility,” he said.
“When a manager with such CV and ambitions wants you, it is difficult not to jump on the horse. So, in that way, it was not very complicated in the end to choose Tottenham.”
Hojbjerg has featured for Spurs in pre-season already and could face his old club in just over two weeks as Spurs visit St Mary's on Sunday, September 20.
