Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in, no Dele Alli - Jose Mourinho's best Tottenham XI for opener vs Everton

Tottenham will start their 2020/21 Premier League campaign at home to Everton on September 12.

Having finished the season strongly to seal a Europa League place after looking unlikely to qualify with only a few games left, Jose Mourinho will be looking for a strong start to the new season.

The head coach has already added Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to his squad following his move from Southampton last week, with Joe Hart also signing on at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after leaving Burnley.

While the latter looks set to be the Lilywhites' third-choice goalkeeper, the former will play a pivotal role in midfield as Spurs have lacked a player to start in the holding role for quite a while now.

Obviously there is still more time to bring additional players to the club ahead of the opener and all Spurs fans will be hoping that is the case.

But what could Mourinho's team look like on the opening day? football.london takes a look.

Well, as things stand at present, the Spurs team is going to look very similar to the one that finished the 2019/20 season with a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.

Hugo Lloris, as ever, will start in goal, with Serge Aurier, Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Ben Davies ahead of him.

As Hojbjerg is expected to come straight into the midfield, it is then a question of who partners him and how many midfielders Mourinho starts with.

We've gone with Harry Winks to get the nod over Moussa Sissoko alongside the Dane, with Giovani Lo Celso playing in a more advanced No.10 role but able to drop back and form a midfield three if needed.

Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min will once again provide support to Harry Kane in attack.

Tottenham XI vs Everton: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Dier, Davies; Hojbjerg, Winks; Lucas, Lo Celso, Son; Kane.
