Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang told he "disrespected" teammates and should expect reaction

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour believes the current crop of Gunners players would be well within their rights to "have a little word" with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after his lateness cost him a place in the north London derby.

Aubameyang was dropped for Sunday's meeting with Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium, and he remained an unused substitute throughout the entirety of the 2-1 win.

The club captain was punished by his manager Mikel Arteta after being late for a team meeting on the morning of the game, and Parlour says the manager was right to act in the manner that he did.

"I think it was exactly the right thing to do. The manager is the manager, nobody is bigger than the club," Parlour told talkSPORT.

"It could have gone wrong but you’ve got to stamp your authority and say: 'Look, you can’t do that!'

"I think it’s disrespectful for the other players as well.

"If everyone else is on time every day and then someone keeps being late, I wouldn’t like it as a player.

"I think the players have got to be having a little word with him behind the scenes. Just leave 15 minutes earlier!"

Parlour added that while he agreed with Arteta's decision, he thinks Aubameyang will come straight back into the team for Thursday's Europa League meeting with Olympiakos.

"I should imagine they would have been in a hotel. Whether it’s for training, I don’t know. Whether it’s the day before for training or the day of the game, I’m not too sure about the whole story," he continued.

"I think Mikel Arteta did a really good interview after the game.

"[He said]: 'Look, it’s dealt with, I’ve had words with him and now he’s ready for selection for Olympiakos on Thursday. Matter’s closed'."
