Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang speaks out on Nicolas Pepe and sends direct message to Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he hopes Arsenal sign Nicolas Pepe quickly because it would be "very pleasant" to line up alongside a player of that calibre.

The Gunners have agreed a £72million transfer fee with Lille to sign Pepe - after giving up on initial target Wilfried Zaha - but the deal has yet to go through.

Aubameyang spoke to the press about the Pepe transfer following Arsenal's friendly against Angers on Wednesday.

The Gabon international told beIN SPORTS: "When there are great players like that who are close to signing with a great club like Arsenal. It's very pleasant to have a player like that.

"I hope that he signs quickly and that it gets done."

Lille president Gerard Lopez meanwhile has confirmed Pepe has agreed a transfer with the Gunners.

"He is the one who made the decision, I think it should be [made official] in the next 24 hours," Lopez told RMC Sport.

"It is €80million fixed. If we pushed this deal out a little bit longer, we could have had five or six offers of the same size.

"Through discussions with Nico and his agents, the situation focused on the certain clubs that we wanted to focus on: the two projects that interested the player."
