Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signs new Arsenal contract to end transfer speculation

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has ended speculation over his future by signing a new three-year deal at the club.

Aubameyang, 31, was linked with a move away from the Emirates with the likes of Barcelona and Inter Milan said to be interesting in acquiring his services.

But the Gabonese striker, who has finished as Arsenal's top goalscorer the past two seasons, has now announced an extension to his contract, which was due to expire next summer.

The deal will keep Aubameyang at the club until 2023.

Aubameyang's future at Arsenal looked uncertain after an eighth placed finish in the Premier League.

But the captain scored an FA Cup final double to lead his side to victory and secure a spot in the Europa League.

Arsenal have now confirmed the striker will remain in north London which comes as a welcome boost to manager Mikel Arteta and fans of the club.

Aubameyang signed for Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund for a then-club record fee of around £56million back in January 2018.

He scored 10 goals in just 14 games before the end of that season before bagging a further 60 goals in all competitions across the last two seasons.

He finished as joint winner of the Premier League Golden Boot with 22 goals alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the 2018/19 campaign.

A tally of 22 goals in the most recent campaign saw him finish one behind Jamie Vardy for the Golden Boot.
