Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sets new Arsenal record with 50th Premier League goal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang became the fastest Arsenal player to score 50 Premier League goals against Norwich.

The Gabon international beat the record previously held by Thierry Henry when he bagged the opener against the Canaries.

Tim Krul gave him a major helping hand as his blunder gifted the prolific marksman with the opportunity to score his half century in his 79th game.

It means he topped Henry's record in four fewer games having been Arsenal's main source of goals since joining in 2018.

His goal against Norwich was his 19th of the season and takes him level with current top scorer Jamie Vardy.

Aubameyang's future remains in doubt with the striker entering the final year of his deal.

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are desperate to retain the player despite the club's hierarchy saying they will sell players who look to run down their contracts.

Inter Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea have all been linked with the 31-year-old.

Talks over a new deal were shelved due to the coronavirus pandemic and Aubameyang recently admitted that the ball is in Arsenal's court.

“Recently I haven’t received an offer but of course there have been discussions with the club for a fair few months now,” he told French outlet Telefoot .

“And they know very well why so far nothing has happened. It’s them [the club] who have the keys and for them to do their work. Afterwards we will see how things go.

“It is a turning point in my career, and I will be very frank with everyone, it will be of course a very difficult decision to make because I have still not decided.

“It is possibly the most important decision of my career. To be clear, nothing has been decided.”
