Former Arsenal defender Ashley Cole believes the Gunners’ summer transfer business could hinge on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future at the club.
The Gabon international is the subject of much speculation this summer, with his contract set to expire this summer and no word yet as to whether he’ll be staying in north London.
Mikel Arteta looks to have a big summer ahead of him, with Aubameyang’s future not the only issue to resolve.
The Gunners boss also faces a crucial transfer window as he looks to put his stamp on his side, following a disappointing season in the Premier League.
They did finish the season with silverware, beating Chelsea 2-1 to lift the FA Cup, where victory has also seen them qualify for next season’s Europa League.
But Cole feels the Gunners’ business will be dictated by Aubameyang’s decision over his future.
Replying to Alan Shearer’s assumption that the forward has already made a decision on his future, Cole replied: “Do you think that’s a sign that Arsenal are going to sign more players?
“If he’s going to sign, he must have spoken to Mikel Arteta and said ‘you’ve got to bring players in, we can’t win the league with this group of players’.
“Maybe that’s a good sign, and Arsenal are going to have some incoming signings soon.”
