Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang insists the Arsenal squad are united behind Granit Xhaka after he succeeded him as club captain.
Little over a month after his appointment Xhaka had the captaincy taken from him after swearing at supporters following his substitution in a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
Aubameyang succeeded the Swiss international as club captain and Xhaka is expected to depart the club in January. However Unai Emery offered him a ray of hope in his press conference ahead of Saturday's home game against Southampton, saying that the midfielder was in his plans from now on.
Publicly the Arsenal squad have been fulsome in their support of Xhaka since the incident at the Emirates last month and Aubameyang offered warm words of support for the 27-year-old.
"I understand that one can make mistakes," Aubameyang wrote. "It happens to all of us. Granit is one of us.
"We are all here for him and I know how mentally strong he is. It was tough to see all of this happening but we need to move forward now all together."
Aubameyang's ascent to the captaincy saw Hector Bellerin take on his previous role as vice-captain with Emery retaining a sizeable leadership group of four.
The Gabon striker, who was never skipper at his previous clubs, intends to lean on the experience of those around him as he tries to bring unity to the Gunners on and off the pitch.
"At Arsenal I'm lucky to be able to rely on other leaders in the dressing room and on the pitch. For me being captain doesn't mean that I decide everything on my own and don't listen to anyone else.
"Guys like Mesut [Ozil], [Alexandre] Laca[zette], Hector, [Sokratis] Papa are very important in this squad. They will help me.
"They are respected, people listen when they talk. They have plenty of experience as well so all together we will lead this club."
