Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's goal spree comes at the perfect time for reinvigorated Arsenal

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was being criticised on social media for wasting missed opportunities in the first half against Newcastle but he quickly sent another reminder as why he's still one of the best forwards in Europe.

An open goal missed would usually be enough to dent the confidence of most strikers but Aubameyang's experience always puts him in a position where you can't write him off.

His return to form comes at a great time for Arsenal as they head into a crucial part in the league season. They face a tricky league game away to Southampton before hosting Manchester United at home this month. Both matches will provide a sterner test than Monday night's game against Newcastle.

The Magpies struggled throughout and couldn't test a Gunners defence which has looked improved in recent weeks, even with Pablo Mari missing the last couple of games through injury. Rob Holding in particular appears to be relishing he fact that he's a regular in the team and deserves his new contract.

Gabriel Martinelli is fit again and made a second half cameo appearance, while Thomas Partey's reintroduction into the starting XI comes at the perfect time for Mikel Arteta's side.

Partey in particular completed 55 of his 58 passes tonight, made three interceptions and registered his first assist for the club. He came to Arsenal with a reputation that preceded him and hasn't been able to show his qualities due to injuries, but the 'Octopus' looks ready to assert himself in the Premier League in 2021.

Added to the impressive youngsters combining for another goal, Emile Smith Rowe's minutes per goal involvement in all competitions is better than Kevin De Bruyne's right now. It's an impressive achievement for the 21-year-old who hasn't looked back since being given his chance in the starting line-up.

For Arsenal, three points and another positive result for a team who didn't look like improving one month ago. It shows how quickly things change in football and why Arteta is beginning to stamp his mark on the team.
