Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to lead out Arsenal for this Saturday's FA Cup final without yet having agreed to a new deal to keep him at the Emirates.
The Gabonese striker is the Gunners' top scorer this season with 27 goals, far ahead of second-top scorer Alexandre Lacazette on 12.
But his future remains the subject of huge speculation as he enters the last 12 months of his deal and amid links to Barcelona.
The ongoing contract negotiations are reminiscent of the saga which surrounded Thierry Henry 14 years ago.
Like Aubameyang, Henry was Arsenal's captain, most prolific player and linked with a move to Barcelona in 2006.

Many expected Henry would leave the Gunners after a 2-1 defeat to the Catalan giants in that year's Champions League final.
But the France legend confirmed his future lay in north London by signing a new four-year deal with Arsenal shortly after the final.
"It's not a surprise anymore, but I'm staying here at the club that I love," Henry said at the time.

"In the past year the love the fans have shown me is more than amazing. After we lost on Wednesday I couldn't let them down.
"My wife is English, London is my home town. The people I meet here welcome me with open arms."
After the FA Cup final, the current occupier of Arsenal's No14 shirt will also need to make a decision about where his future lies.
The Athletic reports Arsenal could activate a costly 12-month extension on his contract, but neither party favours this outcome.
Instead, head of football Raul Sanllehi would rather table a long-term bid to keep Aubameyang part of the rebuild being orchestrated by manager Mikel Arteta - with whom the 31-year-old has a strong relationship.
And with a place in the Europa League at stake during the fixture with Chelsea, winning the match could tip the balance in convincing Aubameyang to stay.
