Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's agent responds as Arsenal strip striker of captaincy

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's agent, Kwaku Mensah, has responded to the news of his client being stripped of his captaincy role at Arsenal.

The Gunners confirmed on Tuesday morning that the 32-year-old will not continue as the club's captain and will also not be in the matchday squad for their clash with West Ham United on Wednesday evening.

Arsenal released an official statement, confirming the news, after Mikel Arteta confirmed Aubameyang was left out of the squad to take on Southampton at the weekend following a "disciplinary breach".

The statement from Arsenal read: "Following his latest disciplinary breach last week, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will no longer be our club captain, and will not be considered for selection for Wednesday's match against West Ham United.

"We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agreed. We are fully focused on tomorrow’s match."

Now, Aubameyang's agent has taken to Instagram to respond to the news, and while not offering his opinion, his thoughts were pretty clear.

He simply posted three images on his story, with one of them being Aubameyang lifting the FA Cup trophy, then the FA Cup and one of the striker pictured with the Premier League Golden Boot award.

Now, the search for a new permanent captain is on for Arteta, with a skipper looking unlikely to be confirmed before Wednesday's match with West Ham.

football.london understands that Arsenal have numerous options for the captaincy role, with Martin Odegaard, Kieran Tierney, Ben White and Alexandre Lacazette all being considered for the position.

Without Aubameyang in the squad for Wednesday's meeting with the Hammers, Arteta has Lacazette, Folarin Balogun and Eddie Nketiah as options for the centre-forward role - as Arsenal look to make it back-to-back victories after beating Southampton at the weekend.
