Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reveals Mikel Arteta's half-time message to inspire Arsenal's 4-0 win

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has explained the half-time changes Mikel Arteta called for in the Premier League match against Newcastle United.

The Gunners entered the interval goalless, struggling to establish a foothold in the game with Newcastle's defensive line looking solid, but responded valiantly in the second period.

Aubameyang opened the scoring and the hosts quickly doubled their advantage, with Nicolas Pepe firing home, before Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette rounded off the victory with late goals.

The result represents Arsenal's biggest win under Arteta and Aubameyang has revealed the changes that the Spaniard call for during his half-time instructions.

"He said just keep going. I think we started not at our best but then in the second half we put some more energy, we went through and we scored," he told Sky Sports.

"We spoke at half-time, the coach told me to stay like a second striker, so I kept my position and I'm ready to score. We practiced heading this week.

"They were playing very deep and very compact so it was good for us to have me in the middle, to give more space for Bukayo, and that's it."

Saka echoed the comments from his club captain, identifying that Arsenal were not at their best initially but found their rhythm after the restart.

"We just tried to bring energy to the game. The first half, we were a bit slow but they were defending really deep, really well, were compact and we struggled to get through.

"In the second half I thought they couldn't match our energy, we just kept going, playing, combining and they couldn't handle us.
