Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reveals he almost joined Tottenham - ‘In the end, I don’t know what they did’

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed he almost joined Tottenham earlier in his career.

The forward, who moved to the Emirates Stadium in January 2018 and has since scored 92 goals in 159 appearances, was speaking on a Sky Sports Fan Q&A posted on Youtube.

When asked by an Arsenal supporter whether he’d rather retire than move to their bitter rivals at this stage of his career, the Gabon international replied: “You don’t need to ask the question. You know it already. I would retire.

“I don’t know if you know this, but a few years ago, I was close to signing for Tottenham. In the end... I don’t know what they did. So I’d rather retire!”

This season, the 32-year-old has been in good form.

While the former Borussia Dortmund striker missed a penalty in the win over Watford prior to the international break, Aubameyang has scored four goals in nine Premier League starts, with Mikel Arteta’s side one of the form teams in England at the moment.

On Friday, the Arsenal forward scored his country’s only goal in a World Cup qualifier win over Libya.
