Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reveals Arsenal's primary objective ahead of new Premier League season

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has said that Arsenal's main objective for the new season is qualifying for the Champions League.

The Gunners missed out on qualification last term after finishing outside of the top four and losing to Chelsea in the Europa League final in Baku.

That means that the north London side face another season in Europe's second competition - something which, according to Aubameyang, isn't good enough.

Speaking to FourFourTwo , he said:  "That has to be the main target of every Arsenal season. You come back to training and that's what everyone is thinking about.

"We're hungry to hear that song once again. It's time. We have the quality to do it, so we have to make sure we will do it.

"It's so important to win something. This is a great club, which has a very long history of winning important trophies, so it's time we won something big again.

"There was the FA Cup a couple of years ago, but now we have to aspire to more. We have a strong mentality to always move forward after any setback."

Of course Champions League qualification isn't just about playing at the highest level, it's also about being able to compete financially.

The Gunners were limited to a transfer budget in the region of £45million this summer after failing to qualify for Europe's top competition.

Had they reached the Champions League, they'd certainly have had a greater budget to play with.

The challenge for Arsenal now is building a team that can close the gap on the top four to ensure that they can dine at Europe's top table this time next year.
