Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has thanked Unai Emery for making him Arsenal captain.
Following Granit Xhaka's outburst against Crystal Palace and subsequently being stripped of the captain's armband - just over a month after the decision was made official - the Gabon international took on the responsibility.
As it turns out, that has proven to be one of Emery's final acts as Gunners head coach.
On Friday morning it was announced that the Spaniard had departed north London after 18 months in charge following weeks of speculation.
The pressure had been mounting on the former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain boss, but he remained defiant and stated that he was simply focused on the next game despite overseeing a winless run which stretches to seven games across all competitions.
However, it turned out that the 2-1 defeat at home against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday night was the final straw, with the Gunners confirming his departure in a statement less than 24 hours later.
In the statement, which was published on Arsenal's website, Josh Kroenke spoke on behalf of the Arsenal board and the club's owners Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.
"Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand," Kroenke said.
"We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success."
First-team players Emiliano Martinez, David Luiz, Dani Ceballos, Calum Chambers and Alexandre Lacazette have all sent messages to the former Gunners head coach.
Now Aubameyang has done the same.
"Thanks for been always positive and Made me responsible of the captaincy," Aubameyang wrote on Instagram. "Thanks to you and Your staff .
"Wishing you the Best for the Future."
