Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reacts to contract question as Arsenal squad issued warning

Here are your Arsenal headlines for the morning of Tuesday April 14.

Arsenal squad warned about further pay cuts

Raul Sanllehi told Arsenal’s players that they could face further pay cuts if the 2019/20 is voided due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis after the initial proposal from the club hierarchy was rejected.

The Gunners head of football also told Mikel Arteta’s squad that the club would struggle to offer improved contract terms if they reject a 12.5% cut in their salaries between April 2020 and March 2021.

Arsenal’s first team squad have not reacted well to the proposal put forward by their employers with negotiations between the two parties still ongoing.

Will Arsenal overhaul their defence?

The North London club are attempting to avoid a situation which could see Premier League clubs have to hand back around £750 million broadcasters at the end of the 2019/20 season being concluded prematurely.

Aubameyang stays coy on Arsenal future

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang refused to commit either way when asked about his future at Arsenal in an Instagram live chat with Kevin-Prince Boateng.

The Gabonese striker’s current contract at the Emirates Stadium is set to expire in the summer of 2021 with recent reports claiming Aubameyang could look to leave Arsenal either before then or on a free transfer.

In an Instagram live chat Aubameyang was joined by Boateng who said: “They're [fans commenting on the stream] all saying you should sign a new deal with Arsenal.” Aubameyang replied: “Ah, yeah. I know,” at which point Boateng asked: "How long do you have left?”

Aubameyang replied: "One year." He then awkwardly laughed before adding 'sure, sure' when asked for a second time whether he planned on staying at the Emirates Stadium as an Arsenal player.

Gilberto Silva puts forward Elneny as defensive midfield solution

Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva has suggested that Mohamed Elneny could be a surprise solution to the club’s search for a defensive midfielder.

The Gunners have been linked with a number of potential targets, with the Telegraph reporting that Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey is on their radar. However, Silva believes Elneny could succeed himself and Patrick Vieira as the midfield destroyer Arsenal need.

“In the last few years, the situation has been difficult at Arsenal,” the Brazilian told France Football, as per Get Football News France. “They have very similar players in midfield, with profiles that resemble each other and not really players of the profile of Patrick Vieira, or even my profile.

“The only individual who resembled (us), that could have been Mohamed Elneny, but he didn’t play. But they have not really had those types of players to cover the defensive midfield position.”
