Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pinpoints what's behind Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli's rise

Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli may be making swift strides for such young players this season but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang insists he and Alexandre Lacazette don't deserve too much credit for the rise of their striking protegees.

Nketiah scored his first Premier League goal of the season in Sunday's 3-2 win over Everton, his second in all competitions since his loan spell in the Championship with Leeds United was ended prematurely.

The 20-year-old has some way to go before he matches the goalscoring exploits of Martinelli, a £6million summer signing from Brazilian state football who has scored 10 goals in 24 appearances this summer and hit such a rich vein of form that Brazil and Italy are battling over his international allegiances.

Both players have credited senior forwards Aubameyang and Lacazette with a mentoring role - Nketiah said earlier this week that "they're always willing to give advice and talk to me whenever I need it" - but the club captain is keen to ensure that the spotlight falls firmly on the youngsters.

Arteta confident ahead of Olympiacos second leg

"What a magnificent finish by Eddie on Sunday!" Aubameyang wrote in his programme notes. "It is even more enjoyable to see a goal like this at his age.

"It was a great cross by Bukayo [Saka] and the way Eddie stayed in the air and made perfect connection with the ball was brilliant. He has the goal in him.

"Like Gabi, he is learning fast. They are really good kids. They listen and observe.

"Laca and I don't have to say too much. They just observe a lot at training and then reproduce it in the games."

Aubameyang's own form this season has been no less impressive with the 30-year-old scoring goals 18 and 19 of the season in the victory at home to Everton, which kept alive the Gunners' lingering hopes of Champions League qualification through a top four or potentially five finish.
