Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang message means Arsenal can provide Xavi with Sergio Aguero replacement

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be on the move to Barcelona, and his friendship with one of their current players could help a potential deal come to fruition.

Spanish outlet El Nacional has reported that Xavi is interested in bringing Arsenal's former captain to Camp Nou, in order to solve striker issues of their own.

The Gunners announced on Tuesday that the 32-year-old had been stripped of club captaincy after breaching disciplinary rules, which has further pushed the forward in the direction of a transfer away from the club.

It appears Barcelona is certainly a likely destination for the striker, and even more so when you consider his close ties with Ousmane Dembele, who is currently at the La Liga side.

The former Borussia Dortmund duo shared great moments when they were teamed up in the Bundesliga under current Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.

Dembele joined Dortmund from French side Rennes before the German club lifted the DFB Pokal trophy in 2017, with both players having a pivotal impact on the team’s success.

Aubameyang and Dembele would both depart Germany during the 2017/18 season, but their friendship wouldn’t end there. The pair were constantly seen pictured together, and it left fans dreaming of a potential reunion at Arsenal.

The Gabonese international even came to the defence of the Frenchman in 2019, after he tweeted his displeasure towards the Borussia Dortmund CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, because he had hinted that both players left the club for financial gain.

The Arsenal forward had already been linked with a move away from the club due to his dip in form, and now recent developments have created a serious need for fresh ideas in attack.

His disciplinary breach was seemingly the last straw for him at Arsenal, and it currently looks as though Barcelona could be the best destination for the veteran striker.

It would certainly be a move that benefits both clubs, with the influence of Dembele potentially helping speed up the process of this particular transfer come the new year.
