Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang makes promise to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta amid transfer talk

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has vowed to give his all for new Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta while the Gabon forward remains at the club.

However, Aubameyang still looks set to leave the Gunners in the summer as he is determined to play in the Champions League again.

Arsenal look unlikely to qualify for next season's Champions League, with Arteta's side currently 12th in the Premier League, 11 points off a top-four place.

They could still qualify through the Europa League, but time appears to be running for the Gunners to convince the 30-year-old to stay.

However, after being handed the captaincy, Aubameyang is willing to put the team over himself for the rest of the season, according to the Telegraph .

Earlier this month, Aubameyang pulled out of talks with the club over a contract extension.

He won the Premier League golden boot last season and is Arsenal's top scorer again this term, with 13 goals in 20 Premier League games so far despite the Gunners' miserable start to the campaign.

His contract has 18 months left to run, but his situation has club chiefs facing a dilemma over whether to sell him next summer - or let him enter the final year of his deal and risk him leaving on a free a year later.

Aubameyang, who cost £56million when joining from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, is deeply frustrated with the club going backwards and wants to win trophies.

With only the French League Cup and the German Cup to show for his career as major club honours, he is aware that time is running out in that regard, as he turns 31 next June.

Arteta must mastermind a massive turnaround of Arsenal's fortunes if he is to convince Aubameyang he can fulfil his silverware dreams at the Emirates.
