Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang makes Arsenal promise after season of "regrets"

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has promised to make up for a season full of “regrets” after taking responsibility for Arsenal ’s disappointing campaign.

Gunners captain Aubameyang, 31, admits he has not scored enough goals, contracted malaria while on international duty and was also dropped after turning up late for a match.

Arsenal now face a last chance saloon against Villarreal in the Europa League because it is their final hope of getting into next season’s Champions League.

Aubameyang, who is ready to start despite admitting he is not 100 per cent fit, said: “I know it's been a really tough year because I've had some issues on and off the pitch.

“But I'm feeling confident for the end of the season. In my mind, I'm hungry. I feel more than 100 per cent and I want to finish it well for the club.

“This season has been really, really difficult. Everyone was expecting me to score more goals. I know it. Maybe I feel a bit responsible that we are in this situation right now.

“But we have this opportunity to change it with this game and hopefully go to the final and win it. This is our main target.

“We just have to look forward and keep focussed for the rest of the season. But of course I regret some things this season. But I can’t do anything about the past. I am just looking forward to end the season well.

“Maybe it's the biggest of my Arsenal career. I would say I’m 90 per cent fit. But in my mind, I feel more than 100 per cent. But physically, maybe I'm not 100 per cent, not quite there, but hopefully my body will respond well but in my mind I'm ready.”
