Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says Thomas Partey "locked down" three Man Utd players

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has clearly already struck up a friendship with Thomas Partey following the Ghanaian midfielder's arrival at Arsenal.

The former Atletico Madrid man has not taken long to begin to make his mark on the pitch since joining the Gunners on transfer deadline day.

And he put in another impressive performance in their 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

Aubameyang, who scored the winning goal, discussed the win in the club's official matchday programme ahead of their Europa League game against Molde on Thursday, and singled out Partey for praise both on and off the field.

"It was a great performance from the whole team and it was great to see Thomas Partey play like that even though he’s not been here long," Aubameyang said.

"Off the pitch he’s a really humble guy and you can see that on the pitch as well because he really gives everything in the game.

"He is really simple and quiet, so humble, and we all really like him.

"He’s really funny too – sometimes he’ll do some jokes and we won’t be expecting it. So he’s settled in really quickly.

"On the pitch his strengths are his energy and the way he can stop counter-attacks and dangerous situations. That’s really important for us."

Aubameyang was particularly impressed with the way Partey dealt with the threat coming from United's midfield, and is hugely positive about the player's future at Arsenal.

He added: "I think he locked down three of Manchester United’s midfielders on Sunday – that’s my point of view anyway – and that’s really important for us.

"Also he can play forward really well when he regains the ball and that’s a good point for us."

Arsenal have won their two opening Europa League group games, and victory against Molde would all but guarantee their progression to the knockout stages of the competition.
